Sometimes I Feel Discontent. Is that Okay?

by | Self Coaching

Hey brother. I’m feeling a little funky today. So I decided to make myself this video as a reminder to me that everything is okay. Sometimes we just feel down. Then we tell ourselves stories about what that means. But the real story is that we are not machines and some days we just feel off. It’s okay. We don’t need to make up stories or label or judge it. We have the power to choose to just let it pass and be kind to ourselves and that’s what I am doing today.

Here is the full text of the video, in case you learn better by reading.

Okay, Charlie, this is a little bit of self coaching in a non-traditional way. I’m going to make this video for you. And then I want you to watch it as if someone else is talking to you, and you are not just talking to yourself. I want you to hear these things and I want you to internalize them.

First of all, everything is okay. You are okay!

You live in Austin, Texas. All of your bills are paid. Everyone is healthy. You have money in the bank. There are people wanting to give you money. You have everything that you need. You have skills, you have opportunities.

You have a hot tub, you have an RV. You have an electric car. You have a practically brand new iPhone. That is just as capable as anything that you’ve ever had. The new one has more whiz bang. But the one that you have is just fine. You have an iPad, with a keyboard that you can take anywhere and do anything with.

You have a computer, a MacBook, that you can do anything with. You have high speed internet. You have clean water. You have fresh air. You have a fluffy little dog. You have a big backyard. You have friends. You have activities. You have everything that I can think of. You shoot photography, share it with people, and you have a good eye. You can print big pictures in your own home, without sending them off to hang on your wall.

Everything is fine. You have freelancers you can pay to update your meal planner app. So you don’t even have to write the code. You know, people who know people. You are taking a coaching program and people are paying you to coach them. People tell you that they love you. Your family tells you that they love you. Your friends tell you that they love you.

So I know you’re feeling funky right now. You are feeling weird. You feel anxious. You are feeling out of place. You are feeling discontent. You are feeling distracted. You are feeling stretched, not because you don’t have the bandwidth, but because your the possibilities that are in front of you sometimes distract you. You think, “Oh this would be a good idea. Maybe I should pay attention to that! Oh, this would be a good idea. Maybe I should pay attention to this!”

Stay focused.

You are all of those things. You are none of those things. You are you, and you have the ability to do those things. You have the ability to sell your photography, you have the ability to publish mobile apps, and create content for those apps. You have the ability to create a men’s community platform, you have the ability to coach men, you have the ability to let go and do the things that YOU want to do.

Breathe, take it slow, and relax.

Let things unfold. Stop trying to make everything happen. Relax, and just be for a while.

The only thing that is real is what is right in front of you, right now. You can you can make plans. You can head in a certain direction. You can have desired goals and you can make decisions based on what is right in front of you, at this moment. You can also adjust course, as you go. Let go of the need to know how it’s going to work, or what’s going to happen. If you’ll be “okay”. If something is going to go wrong. Or, if you’re not gonna be able to “make it”. Or if you won’t be able to handle it.

You have to let go of all those things. Because all of those things are false. All those things are certainly possibilities. But imagining them is living in that false reality. You are suppressing your creative energy and flow by living in a false reality that doesn’t exist. What purpose does it serve? It doesn’t serve any good purpose.

So just look at what is right in front of you right now and ask, “Does this align with where I want to go? Does this align with who I am? Does this align with who I want to be?” If the answer is no, then don’t do it and everything else will work itself out.

You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. You don’t have to be somebody you don’t want to be. Whatever consequences or series of results that happen beyond that are just whatever they are.

Everything will work itself out if we just be who we are, who we want to be, and do what we want to do in the moment. Let go of everything else.

So I want you to breathe. I want you to slow way down. And I want you to do one thing at a time. So long as that thing is inline with who you want to be and what you want to give your life energy to.

It is okay! You are okay. Okay. I love you. I’m proud of you. I respect you. And I trust you. You got this. Let’s have some fun!

Much love brother,

Charlie McKeever
